Welcome!

Welcome to Trinity Presbyterian Church in Shell Knob, Missouri.  We welcome you to Shell Knob and to this church. We are glad that you came to be with us, and we hope you can worship with us often. Whether you live here full-time, part-time or are just visiting - you are welcome at Trinity Presbyterian Church.  Every Sunday we gather to worship God and celebrate our faith.

What we Believe
We believe
● in God the Father, who created us and gave us life,
● in Jesus Christ, who redeemed us and set us free, and
● in the Holy Spirit, who is our Counselor and the One who empowers us.
We believe that all people belong to God. Every person bears something of the image of God. We were created to have a relationship with Almighty God both in this world and in heaven. In our lives we choose to turn away from the will of God, and we call that sin. So long as the direction of our lives is away from God, we cannot have a relationship with God in this life, nor in heaven. But, thanks be to God, the consequences of our sin is wiped away through placing our faith in Jesus Christ. Our faith in Jesus Christ opens us to the love and grace of God the Father. We bear the name Christian, for we live to honor Christ Jesus. We are not perfect, but we are forgiven. We do not obey the rules of the Bible to enter heaven, but we do try to be obedient as a way of showing our love and appreciation for what God has done for us. When we are with others who believe in Jesus Christ, we try to learn and grow, worship, grow in friendships and have fun. When we are in the world, we try to continue to live a life which shows that Jesus is the boss of our lives.

MISSION STATEMENT
Trinity Presbyterian Church is a community of faithful Christians called by God to provide programs and ministries for all ages so that everyone may know and accept Jesus Christ is Lord as revealed in Scripture.

The Mission of Trinity Presbyterian Church (Expanded):
Statement 1: Praying
We believe through prayer God reveals Himself, makes His will known and empowers His people. Through prayer God makes the Good News of Jesus Christ effective, performs miracles, and transforms the human body, mind and soul. Through prayer, God changes us, others, and circumstances both near and far. As there is no limitation to what God can do, we can and do invite prayer for all concerns. When we pray, we express our gratitude for all the blessings we have received from God.

Statement 2: Knowing the Triune God, personally.
We believe God reveals Himself throughout history as God the Father, Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit. We believe God is One and the Trinity is a mystery to be received by faith and celebrated.

Statement 3: Worshiping and glorifying God privately and communally.
We believe the first call of all who believe is to worship and glorify God. When we reflect the character and personality of God, we glorify God. When we worship the Lord, the yearning of the human soul is filled as we make a mystical connection whose focus is God.

Statement 4: Intentionally spending time in small groups.
We believe every person who is able should intentionally participate in a small group sponsored by our church. Those who cannot participate should not be denied opportunity to worship, fellowship, or study with others as we reach out to minister to those in need.

Statement 5: To serve the Lord publicly and globally.
We believe our light should so shine that others might see the glory of the Lord revealed through us and become fellow participants in the ministry we are called to through Jesus Christ. Our service is not for reward, but to be faithful to God. Our service will begin in our region and end on the other side of the globe through our support of worldwide missions.

Statement 6: Inviting others to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
We believe the greatest gift is our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and that it is a privilege and responsibility to share this gift with others. It is our desire to be faithful to the Great Commission, which Jesus gave his followers, and we regard this task to belong to the whole church and to each one who is a member.

Statement 7: Preserving Truth and surrendering to the authority of Scripture.
We believe all truth belongs to God and that the sole authority regarding faith and practice is found in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament. It is our desire to know the truth and to live by the truth both in our private lives and as a church.

Our Church Government:
Whatever the strengths and weaknesses of our Federal Government, they are the same in the Presbyterian Church for our Federal Government was founded on these same principles. We have a representative form of government in our church, with the local church being governed by Elders and the Pastor who make up what we call the Session. We hold ourselves accountable to each other, and when people give themselves to membership in the church, they are making themselves accountable to the larger church so each can grow in faith and in service to Jesus Christ. We have three levels of government beyond the local church, the Presbytery, the Synod, and the General Assembly. Locally, our Session meets on the Third Thursday of every month at 2:00 p.m.

Our History:
The Presbyterian Church traces its roots to the Reformer, John Calvin. Many people regard John Calvin as the greatest theologian who ever lived. He was systematic and based all his belief and practice on the Bible. Calvin influenced many, including John Knox, who brought the Presbyterian way of doing things to the Scots. When Scots and many from Europe migrated to the Americas, they brought the Presbyterian principles with them. In time the Presbyterian Church was born in the United States. Officially, we are part of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America. Historically, our denomination has had a powerful influence worldwide.

Locally, our church began in 1983, meeting in the Williamson Funeral Home. Since we first began, we have grown in membership and purpose. We moved to our current location on Highway 39, about a mile north of the bridge, and in 1995 we completed our addition to the church facilities. Our facility is all on one level, and handicapped accessible. We strive to accommodate the special needs of the physically, hearing, or sight impaired.

As a church, we wish to impact our community and the world. We give generously to missions around the world as well as locally. In the community, our members are active in the school, and in a variety of service organizations. Our goal is to bring Christ Jesus into the places where we are throughout the week. We are a part of the Alliance of Churches, and we are also associate members of the Chamber of Commerce.
