Top Row
Photo #1 & 2-This shows a 1x2 pine jig I made to accept the front and back spars at 2 3/4 degrees positive.  Two and 3/4 degree slots were cut in the 1x2.  The cabane fuselage fittings have already been made and the fuselage holes drilled for these fittings, so I just drilled the same holes in the pine.  That way everything should and did line up.  After checking for level and squareness ( a word I just made up ) I checked the incidence with a model (Robart) incidence meter.  Perfect fit all around.  Now all I have to do is get the steel structure made and welded.  It won't look as boxy as my cabanes actually slat outward and I plan to fair in the front attachment tube.

Photo #3 & 4 - Had to make sure my cabane cross wires were not going to interfere with windscreens and other important stuff.  Decided I need to have the front ones slant forward some to miss the windscreen.  Rear ones caused a more upright windscreen than I had wanted but it will work out.

Photo #5 - This shows the rear, center section spar with wing attach straps and landing wire straps  Doesn't look like much but took 4-5 hours as I wanted to make sure everything was square, level and both ( main root) ribs with the same exact dihedral ( 2 3/4 degrees positive).  The yellow cord is my plumb bob.  Still missing some bolts, some are not A/C bolts or nuts, and it all generally needs some finishing up now.

NOTE:We are at 725 hours of building time. - 11-03-01
Note: Now at 732 hours and the date this page finished is 2-03-02 (Yes I am a weenie- Too damned cold to work in the garage and 8 million other things going on during the period.  Have only 2 million other things left to interfere so work should progress a little better during the next 3 months.

Bottom Row

Photo #1 - The center section as it nears completion.  Needs 2 more coats of Polyurethane and 10 mm ply wraped/glued around nose.  End ribs capped with .040 aluminum to add structure for the hold bar.  These end ribs will be lightened as the center section nears completion.
Photo #2 - Center section bottom.  Put in 1/8 ply bottom as I may need it if I add a fuel tank in the center section.  Not for support, as the tank would be supported by brackets between the spars.  Will make for easier exit of fuel line, etc.  the bottom ply conforms with the rib for better fabric attachment.
Photo #3 -This shows bushed holes for wing straps and landing wire straps. Sawdust in photo #1 was generated making these blue foam blocks that are being fiber glassed. The blocks and fiber glassing only took about 30 minutes.  These will be our rounded fillets that will be screw attached to pretty up the center section grab bar area.  Also shows the way I scecured the hold bar.
Photo #4 -Finished Fillet.  Just needs screw blocks and screws.
Photo #5 -It is done and hung.
