VESSEL SAFETY CHECKS

A Vessel Safety Check is a free safety review of your boat ( vessel) or personal water craft ( PWC ) to verify the presence and condition of certain Safety Equipment required by State and Federal regulations. The Vessel Examiner is a trained specialist and a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. They make recommendations and discuss certain safety issues that will help you be a safe boater.
This is not a boarding or a law enforcement issue. No citations will be given if your vessel does not meet all safety requirements. We will supply you with a copy of our evaluation so that you may follow some of the suggestions given. Vessels that meet Federal Requirements will be able to display our distinctive VSC decal. This does not exempt you from law enforcement boarding, but it can help you have a positive experience.
We encourage every boat and PWC owner to have their vessel safety checked every year. You may schedule a safety check by calling Bob Fennessey, Flotilla Staff Officer - Vessel Examiner at 417-852-4880 who will schedule a time and a place. To see if there is a Vessel Safety Check scheduled in your area browse Division 5's Scheduled Vessel Safety Check webpage.
