The Monkey's Fist

The Monkey's Fist is used as a traditional weight for a heaving line.  It is classified as a covering knot in Ashley's Book of Knots since the knot covers a weight.

Because of the complexity of the knot, it is presented in two steps with (not too great) fairly large graphics.

To begin, get 6 to 7 feet of 1/4 to 5/16 inch soft line.  You will also need a core weight such as a golf ball or a round stone of 1-inch diameter.  I have used a 3/4 inch stainless steel cap nut.
