"As aircraft
Commander of Auxiliary Aircraft N8847J on 8 May 2006. Responding to
emergent tasking requested by U.S. Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley, you
professionally answered the short-fuse call to action while demonstrating
superb aerial technical competence and remarkable airmanship. After
M/V Mary Kay Eckstein's bridge allision resulted in a 22 barge breakaway,
Marine Safety Unit Paducah required immediate and continuous
reconnaissance of the disaster area affecting the Upper Mississippi River.
Your constant aerial vigilance involving affected areas of the Mississippi
river provided operational commanders sustained situation reports and
barge status reports involving 22 stranded and grounded barges. This
essential information provided Marine Safety Unit, Paducah provided the
framework to make the "right" operational decisions, thus providing a
decisive course of action to remediate ensuing problems and unsure
continuous safe navigation on the Upper Mississippi River." |
