Citation (in part)

"During the major restructuring and centralization of the Mariner Licensing and Documentation (MLD) Program, the Coast Guard Auxiliary REC Support Team demonstrated outstanding support to the Coast Guard National Maritime Center (NMC) and seventeen RECs.  As the MLD Program came under intense Congressional scrutiny for delays in issuance of mariner credentials, the Coast Guard Auxiliary took it upon themselves to assist in all processes serving mariners at the RECs.  Auxiliary members provided invaluable assistance at this crucial time in the MLD Program's history.  The Coast Guard Auxiliary REC Support Team found no job undesirable and provided direct assistance with office administration, remote site duties including mariner identification and fingerprint collection, examination monitoring, administration of oaths, direct customer assistance including assistance in the application process, and myriad other mariner related tasks.  Taking the initiative to receive appropriate program training, they were instrumental in maintaining and providing numerous remote site services throughout the country, saving maritime customers time and travel costs normally associated with trips to the RECs.  Moreover, Auxiliary Team members have assisted the RECs, the NMC, and the Coast Guard by auditing and assessing commercial and academic licensing courses and site approvals, allowing REC evaluators to continue their primary duties of evaluating applications for Merchant Mariner Credentials.  This assistance greatly eased the staggering credentialing workload at the RECs and began the process of improved customer service to mariners throughout the nation."

Commendation received with ribbon pendant.
