"Displaying
outstanding dedication to training, this team organized exercises to test
and evaluate multiple emergency response agencies in the Peoria, Illinois
area. This original endeavor brought together the resources of numerous
law enforcement agencies, fire departments, local rescue teams, and one
rescue dive team. The exercises culminated with a one-day exercise
designed to inform each partner team of the others’ capabilities and
limitations. After a formal education component, on water exercises were
conducted including search and rescue, diving operations, and command and
control exercises. In past exercises, search and rescue operations were
conducted using dummy victims. The 2007 exercise made significant strides
forward in realism by having the Peoria Rescue Dive Team act as the water
rescue victims. Coastguardsmen and Auxiliarists provided 520 hours
planning, organizing, and directing these exercises. The integral
training provided by the Multiple Agency Training Exercise Team was
instrumental in the standardization of lifesaving and rescue operations
for the participating teams in the Peoria, Illinois area. Overall
Emergency Response Agency preparedness significantly improved in the
Peoria area." |
