"This small but
dedicated team consisting of competitors, coaches, and assistants
immediately began countless hours of formal and informal training in
preparation for this high profile event that was also the last of its kind
after 10 years of international competition. Along with the
preparation undertaken at many private residences and their respective
Auxiliary Flotillas, scheduled team training also took place in Minnesota
and Dauphin Island, Alabama, under less than ideal and sometimes server
weather conditions. The great distances traveled and loss of free
weekends resulted in the best showing the Eight District has ever recorded
in the history of ISAR. Until this year, no District Eight Team had
ever won first place in any of the ISAR events; the 2007 Team's efforts
culminated in an outstanding total of two first place awards out of a
total of eight events, with an overall placement of second among sixteen
total teams. Additionally, due to the international flavor of the
ISAR competition, a requirement existed, which placed one member of each
district team on a mixed Canadian-American or CAN-AM Team. The
Eighth District's CAN-AM member contributed to an additional first place
award, for a total of three among team members. The volunteer
spirit, professionalism, tenacious preparation, and the remarkable
teamwork displayed by all members of this all-star team was proven by the
excellent results they achieved. " |
