"This
year’s recipient of the Office of Boating Safety Eagle award for RBS
Excellence in the Atlantic Area West is Mr.
Alan T. Main
from Rogers, AR.
He is a member of Flotilla Six in the 5th Division of District 8, Western
Rivers. Mr.
Main has completed over 200 patrol and
call-out hours on Beaver Lake.
However, he “finds”
the time to go to the rescue, night or day, of anyone who is in trouble on
the 70 mile long Corps of Engineers Beaver Lake. During a past patrol
season, Mr. Main was on the water 35 times. 32 were for Marine Safety
Patrols, 2 for operational training missions, and 1 Regatta Patrol. This
occupied 75.72 hours of his volunteer time. While on patrol he was called
on 14 times to come to the aid of boaters, broken down, out of gas, or in
need of emergency assistance. He was called out by Central
Communications, the local dispatch group, 8 times when he was not on
patrol.
In cooperation with Boat U.S., he developed a plan to award over 500
T-shirts to young people on the lake that were “Caught Wearing My PFD”.
His effort has been recognized throughout the Auxiliary and published in
the Navigator. Following this, in 2007, he arranged for private funding
in the amount of $2,500 to print an additional batch 0f 750 T-shirts for
distribution on Beaver Lake." |
