Academy for Division Commander and Flotilla Commander 2009 officers - The Division Commander (DCDR) Academy is scheduled for  7-9 November 2008 and the Flotilla Commander Academy  5-7 December 2008 both at the Drury Inn (Union Station), St. Louis, MO.   Invitational letters from CDR Campbell containing full details regarding location, travel, timetables, who may attend under reimbursable vs. non-reimbursable orders, uniform of the day, etc. have been published and are available for download DCDR letter or FC letter  Members who receive approval to attend the academy under reimbursable orders must complete the Travel Request Worksheet.  15oct08

Opportunities for Auxiliarists to support Sector Upper Mississippi River (UMR) - learn more about the many opportunities just established for Auxiliarists to support Sector UMR - establishment of State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) teams at each of the SEOC's in Sector Upper Mississippi River's Area of Responsibility (MS Word or Adobe Acrobat PDF) and members to volunteer to participate in Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPC) meetings along the Upper Mississippi, Illinois and Missouri rivers (MS Word or Adobe Acrobat PDF).  These documents provide opportunity details and qualification requirements. 29sep08

Used Uniform Items Needed for Sale on District Website  - Do you have uniform items you no longer need and would like to sell?   Virginia Stanek has had great success in selling used uniforms, devices, caps, ribbon and medal mounts, etc. via the District's Used Uniform Exchange webpage..  Members from throughout the United States browse the webpage regularly watching for available uniform items.  This is evidenced by recent sales to members from the states of  New York and Washington.  As a result of the sales success, Virginia is in need of more used uniform items to replenish her inventory.   If you have outgrown some of your uniforms, changed positions and no longer need your previous shoulder boards, devices, have duplicate uniform parts that you no longer use, etc. please consider sending them to Virginia to be placed on the Used Uniform Exchange webpage for sale.  This is a free service provided to all Auxiliary members by District 8WR as an avenue to assist members in selling uniform items no longer needed.  Members receive 100% of the sales price.  Virginia's address, telephone number and e-mail address appear on the webpage along with guides for selling uniform items via the Used Uniform Exchange webpage. 13sep08 

Interim Election for VCO - due to the untimely death of District 8WR Vice Commodore, Ron Allen, there will be an interim election to fill the now vacant Vice Commodore position for the period from the interim election through December 31, 2008.  The interim election will be held on Thursday, September 25, at the regularly scheduled captain's Meeting at 1600 hours.   The elected interim Vice Commodore will be sworn in to office on Friday, September 26, just before the regularly scheduled elections for District Commodore, Chief of Staff and District Captains.  11sep08

Coast Guard Academy Admissions Partnership Program Expanded - ALCOAST 438/08 has been issued to advise of an expanded version of the  Coast Guard Academy Admissions Partnership Program (AAPP).  The Coast Guard Auxiliary contributes significant support to this program.  The message is posted on the Coast Guard's general message board at  http://www.uscg.mil/announcements.  11sep08

Death of Ron Allen, Vice Commodore - It is with great sorrow to announce that our District Vice Commodore, Ronald Allen, Sr., crossed the bar this afternoon.  Commodore Allen is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his son Ronald Allen, Jr., his daughters Lisa and Amy Allen.  They were at his side when he crossed the bar.  The wake will be Tuesday, September 9 and the funeral Wednesday, September 10.  The place, addresses and time of each will be published when the information is known.  09sep08

Death of Edna Rose Aten - Edna Rose Aten, affectionately known as the "Godmother of the Auxiliary" and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 40 years, has passed away and interment was on August 23, 2008.  Our sympathy is extended to Charles and Marilyn Aten.  24aug08
