The Aurora Fire Department, established in 1887, serves an area of approximately 35 square miles. The department is staffed with five full-time and 31 volunteer personnel operating out of two stations, utilizing three engines, a light rescue unit, two brush units and three support vehicles. The divisions within the department are: Administration, Operations, Training, Emergency Management, and City Staff/Community Risk Reduction. The department provides a wide range of emergency and non-emergency services, including BLS First Responders, Level B Hazardous Materials Response, Teachnical Rescue, Fire and life-safety presentations and inspections at businesses and community groups. Currently, the department holds an ISO (Insurance Service Office) rating of 5, which helps ensure low rates for residential and commercial hazard insurance in Aurora. Current Fire Conditons for our area: Fire Danger Descriptors: Green/Blue - Fires are not likely to become serious and control is relatively easy. Yellow/Orange - All fine dead fuels ignite readily and fires start easily from most causes. Extreme/Red - Fires start quickly, spread furiously, and burn intensely.
